Not That Guy - Watchlist - Beelzebub

Oh my it is already nearing April. As such, this seasons Anime's are rapidly approaching their conclusion. I admit initially I had very little enthusiasm for the lineup that presented itself back in January, so I would like to start this post with an apology to the god of Anime.

Oh mighty Chris who lives in his mothers basement I ask for forgiveness for I have been obviously angered thee. Please relieve me off the wrath which I had set upon myself through my off hand comment that winter 2011 was a slow season. I have seen the err in my ways. Could you stop sending me emails titled "Fag Bleach 4ver!!!". Amen.

Indeed, I have found much to like about this season and have found myself impatiently clicking into the streaming sites minute by minute waiting for the horrid red text "RAW" to go away. For one anime in particular, in a moment of weakness, I gave up and simply watched the raw version anyways. (A decision I always regret later).

So what have I been watching this season? Three animes in particular have struck my fancy:
-Gosick
-Yumekui Merry
& Beelzbub

All three are humorous with some even have decent plots

Beelzbub:

At the time of this blog Beelzbub is at its tenth episode. The 11th is due for April 2nd with Subs usually up within 12 hours. The production aims to have nearly 50 episodes to its name however the series for this year is slated to end at episode 13 (not including the OVA). There have also been some delays and cancellations due to the Tōhoku earthquake with two episodes from midseason not being aired on television.

The anime centers around a first year student at Ishiyama High School. Oga Tatsumi is presented as a "barbaric, ruthless and defiant bastard who thinks nothing of his fellow man. As a result when the demonic lord of hell sends his child Beezlbub to earth to destroy humanity Oga is suddenly faced with the responsibility of raising the little hellspawn. Failure to do so would result in his death. However if Oga can find someone more "badass" then himself, the baby will transfer to that persons care taking the responsibility and pain of raising a demonic overlord away.

Alright so the plot does not lend itself well to the impression of quality, but where the anime fails on the mature and complex plot it makes up for it with interesting charcters and some good scene development. These are characters that are fun to watch and can even be admired at points. Their interactions amongst themselves are well written and often cause me to laugh at the homour of the (albeit immature) situation. I am however, slightly confused by the character "Oga". We are repeatably reminded that he has been choosen as the caretaker for Beezlbub due to his deliquent badass no respect manners however his character is far from that, he seems almost honourable. He even gets along with his respectable family. Suue he can beat the crap out of nearly anyone idotic enough to take him on but he doesn't stoop to the lows of some of his short term enemies. And the conudrum, half way through the anime you no longer simply like his character you respect him. Wheres the badassery in that?

This anime is all about the humour, fight scenes are kept to a minimum and are more often used as a method to deliver some situational humour. I can't say this anime kept me in stiches the whole time, but where the jokes counted they were done well. I would recomend this anime to anyone looking for some good current seriels. This is deffenitly my favourite for the winter season.
